United Way Invests Locally in Faith-Based Organizations

Week 3 Campaign Update:

The Shelby County United Way continues to invest locally in many faith-based organizations with over $575,000 allocated last year alone.  Eight of our partner agencies have faith-based missions.  In addition, 10 grants were awarded to organizations that are faith based as well.

The SCUW board reflects the values of our community.  The current board continues to be diverse and has included a pastor for the past 15 years. President and CEO Scott Barr stated, “Our Board invests in critical programing in our community no matter the status of the organization; church, 501c3, programs, or government entities.  It is important to collaborate with the many organizations and programs that this community has to offer.”

The SCUW has never had a relationship or funded Planned Parenthood. Currently, 99% of all the local United Way’s in the United States have no relationship, provide any funding or in-kind gifts of any kind to the Planned Parenthood organization.

The Shelby County United Way is a local 501c3 non-profit organization that has earned the highest rating from Charity Navigator eight out of the past nine years. Monies raised in the annual campaign are invested locally under the leadership and direction of our local volunteer Board of Directors and Community Allocation Volunteers. Through the third week of the campaign, the campaign total is $230,354. Donors can make payroll contributions with participating employers or make a one time or reoccurring donation by visiting www.shelbycountyunitedway.org or text SHELBY to 40403. Checks can be made payable to Shelby County United Way and mailed to P.O. Box 751, Sidney.
