Shelby County United Way’s Impact

When you support your local United Way, you help over 40 local non-profits provide programming impacting residents lives daily. In 2015, SCUW awarded over $1,100,000 in the impact areas of Health, Education, and Income (Financial Independence). Partner agencies and programs served over 11,200 local residents. $249,500 was awarded to programming Strengthening Families and Individuals. $181,000 was awarded to programming Promoting Health and Well Being. $137,500 was awarded to programming Enriching the Lives of Seniors. $216,000 was awarded to programming Investing in Youth and Children. $163,000 was awarded to programming Caring for People in Crisis. Over $105,045 was awarded to the three newest programs under Community Initiatives. 20 special project grants were awarded totaling over $50,000. Scott Barr, Executive Director, states, “Agencies can fulfill their missions because of the generous donors during the annual campaign. Many agencies could not operate without the support of their United Way funding. Our community steps up every year to help each agency and program make a positive impact in Shelby County.”
The Shelby County United Way is a local 501 c 3 charitable organization earning a four star rating, the highest rating, from Charily Navigator. Funding decisions are made locally by both the board of directors and community leaders and volunteers during the annual allocation process.
